I'm not trying to be rude, but I've seen much, much clearer stock that deserves DD's. I can't remember the artists off the top of my head, but this photo strikes me as singularly unspectacular. Kind of blurry, a little noisy, contrast and brightness is off. Neat angle though.
First off, if you want to complain about a DD choice, go to the person who featured it,not the owner. They didn't have any involvement in the process.
Secondly, You are being rude by pointlessly telling the owner their stock doesn't deserve a DD and mention someone who you think deserves it more. You purposely commented to tell them that. You're not the judge of these things.
When I go to the person who features it, nothing happens. They take no notice, and most of the time don't even bother to reply. So no. Oh, and also, it's not being rude to point out the flaws in a photo that receives site-wide recognition. That's called being realistic. The DDs are supposed to be the best of the best, and to be perfectly blunt, the mods are failing miserably in their job most of the time. I provided constructive critiscm on it (not just 'this is shit!', I pointed out why it wasn't a great photo). In fact, if I recall correctly, *most* of what I said was said critiscm, not just me calling out the mods on yet another bad DD choice. Lastly, no, I'm not an appointed judge of these things, as you put it, but art is subjective is it not? I have a right to voice my opinion on an art site, at least.
DD's are not supposed to be "the best of the best" as you say they're as the dA help section says...
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
Saying the piece doesn't deserve a DD and mentioning another artist isn't a critique ,it's just being rude. Saying the photo ought to be a better resolution is a constructive critique BUT saying it doesn't deserve a DD for it isn't a constructive critique at all.
"...an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting..."
It's their choice not yours.Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it shouldn't be featured. I don't like some DDs either (everyone will have ones they don't like) but that doesn't mean they don't deserve it. The opinion of the person who features it matters ,not yours, mine or anyone else's.
It's just a feature. Not an award of art skill. There is no deserve or not deserve.
